Position Summary
The Infant Lead Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for infants. The Lead Teacher plans and implements age-appropriate activities, establishes positive relationships with children and families, maintains a safe and organized classroom, and supports the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development of each child.
The Lead Teacher serves as a positive role model and works collaboratively with assistant teachers, administrators, families, and other staff members to provide high-quality early childhood care and education.
Essential Responsibilities
- Provide attentive, responsive, and nurturing care to infants throughout the day.
- Maintain a safe, clean, sanitary, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment.
- Supervise children at all times and follow all center safety and supervision policies.
- Follow individual feeding, sleeping, diapering, and care routines established for each child.
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities based on the children's ages, interests, abilities, and developmental needs.
- Provide activities that encourage language, sensory, motor, social-emotional, and cognitive development.
- Follow all state licensing regulations, center policies, and health and safety procedures.
- Maintain accurate records related to attendance, meals, diapering, sleep, incidents, and other required documentation.
- Follow proper procedures for administering medications when authorized and required.
- Establish warm, respectful, and professional relationships with parents and guardians.
- Communicate regularly with families about their child's daily activities, meals, sleep, diapering, mood, and developmental progress.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED; additional education in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field preferred.
- Previous experience working with infants or young children in a licensed childcare or early learning environment preferred.
- Knowledge of infant development, appropriate caregiving practices, and early childhood education principles.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain certification.
- Must meet all education, training, background-check, and other requirements established by applicable state childcare licensing regulations.
- Ability to lift and carry infants and safely perform the physical requirements of the position.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Dependable, patient, nurturing, and responsive approach to working with infants.
- Lift and carry infants and young children.
- Sit, stand, bend, kneel, squat, and move throughout the classroom for extended periods.
- Perform diapering, feeding, cleaning, and other routine childcare responsibilities.
